Dear Fellow Dog Parents,
Earlier this year my son and his partner visited Sri Lanka. They enjoyed the fabulous scenery, the culture, the people, etc but were left shocked and upset by the number of street dogs they saw, from puppies to old souls, dodging the traffic (not always successfully) looking for food and love. The residents and local food shopkeepers donate what they can to the rescue centres but there are 3 million street dogs, many are ill or injured.
Paul and Kimberley visited the Dog Care Clinic in Unawatuna. It is a registered charity rescuing street dogs and providing free medical care for poor pet owners. They run the largest spay and neuter programme in Sri Lanka with up to 50 procedures a day from a mobile van. In addition they home around 400 dogs on the premises and feed around 700 animals on the street daily. However, this challenge is massive as there are over 3 million street dogs in Sri Lanka.
Kimberley was so moved by the plight of these dogs and the tremendous work done by the vets and care team at the Clinic that she has decided to fund raise on their behalf.She has set herself the challenge of completing 1000 pull-ups over the summer to raise funds and has been in touch with the Dog Care Clinic who are delighted by her decision.I am writing to you as dog lovers to highlight the plight of these innocent animals and ask you to read Kimberley’s story, watch her videos, and perhaps donate too.
